ABOUT US
About G9 Maasai Adventure
Rooted in Culture. Guided by Community. Inspired by the Future.
G9 Maasai Adventure is a collective of nine local Maasai guides from the Ngorongoro community in Northern Tanzania.
The name G9 represents the nine Maasai guides who came together with a shared vision: to strengthen community-based tourism, preserve Maasai culture and indigenous knowledge, and create opportunities that contribute to the long-term wellbeing of their communities.
For us, tourism is not simply about showing visitors beautiful landscapes. It is about creating meaningful connections between visitors and local communities while ensuring that culture, knowledge, livelihoods, and natural resources are respected and valued.
Our work is deeply rooted in the Maasai community and in the everyday realities of the people who call Ngorongoro home.
Our Home — Ngorongoro
A Community Rich in Culture and Heritage
Ngorongoro District is located in Northern Tanzania and is one of the areas where Maasai culture, pastoral traditions, wildlife, and extraordinary landscapes come together.
The district includes the divisions of Loliondo, Sale, and Ngorongoro, with numerous wards and villages across the area.
G9 Maasai Adventure is connected to the Meshili Village Authority and its nine subvillages:
Meshili A, Meshili B, Ngurman, Naiborajijiki, Ogol, Elerai, Kesile, Esilalei, and Lorkujita.
This is more than our location. It is our home, our community, and the environment in which our culture and traditions have developed over generations.
It is from this community foundation that G9 Maasai Adventure seeks to share authentic experiences while contributing to a stronger future for local people.
The Beginning of G9
Nine Maasai Guides, One Shared Purpose
G9 began from a simple but powerful idea: local people should play a central role in telling the story of their own community.
As local Maasai guides, the nine members of G9 have first-hand knowledge of the culture, traditions, environment, livestock, landscapes, stories, and everyday life of the community.
Together, they saw an opportunity to use tourism as a platform for cultural preservation and community development.
G9 therefore brings together tourism and community action — creating experiences for visitors while supporting initiatives that address some of the challenges facing local communities.
Travel With Purpose
Our Eight Areas of Focus
Education
Education provides the foundation for future community development. G9 aims to support initiatives that improve educational opportunities through school infrastructure, learning materials, recreational facilities, rainwater harvesting, and adult education programs. We believe that investing in education today creates opportunities for future generations.
Traditional Indigenous Knowledge
Indigenous knowledge is one of the most valuable forms of cultural heritage. Maasai communities possess generations of knowledge connected to livestock, land, water, natural resources, cultural practices, traditions, stories, and the environment. G9 seeks to preserve and promote this knowledge while encouraging responsible cultural exchange between generations and visitors. We believe that what has been passed down to us should not disappear with time.
Health & Wellbeing
Healthy communities are strong communities. G9 looks forward to working with goodwill partners, organizations, and community stakeholders to support initiatives that contribute to better community health and wellbeing. Our focus also includes consideration for vulnerable and special-needs members of society who may require additional support and inclusion.
Food Security
A strong community must have access to sufficient and reliable food. G9 seeks to support initiatives that strengthen food security, self-reliance, and resilience within the community. Through collaboration and responsible management of available resources, we envision communities that are better prepared to meet their food needs and reduce vulnerability to hunger.
Community-Based Tourism
Community-based tourism is at the heart of G9 Maasai Adventure. As local Maasai guides, we seek to develop tourism experiences that allow visitors to understand our culture from a local perspective while increasing community participation and benefits. Our experiences are designed around respect, cultural exchange, learning, and meaningful human connection. We want tourism to create a new door of opportunity for the generations that will come after us.
Livestock Rearing
Livestock is deeply connected to Maasai culture, identity, and livelihoods. For many Maasai families, cattle and other livestock remain an important source of food, income, social value, and economic resilience. G9 seeks to support initiatives that strengthen sustainable livestock livelihoods by improving access to important resources such as grazing areas, water, and salt licks. We believe that protecting livestock livelihoods also means protecting an important part of Maasai heritage.
Water
Protecting One of Our Most Important Resources Water is essential for people, livestock, agriculture, and the environment, yet access to reliable water can be a major challenge in rural communities. G9 seeks to contribute to solutions including borehole development and maintenance, rainwater harvesting, water-source protection, catchment conservation, and community awareness. We believe protecting water sources today is an investment in the future of the community.
Equality & Justice
Every Voice Matters G9 believes in a community where people have equal opportunities to participate, contribute, and raise their voices. We support the principle that opportunities should not be limited by gender, clan, education level, social status, or whether someone is traditionally considered powerful or voiceless. Our vision is a free, inclusive, and democratic community where everyone has an opportunity to contribute to development and community decision-making.
Our Commitment
Preserving Our Past. Building Our Future.
The world is changing, and indigenous communities are facing new social, economic, environmental, and cultural challenges.
G9 Maasai Adventure believes that the answer is not to reject change, but to ensure that development does not come at the cost of identity, culture, knowledge, and community values.
Through responsible tourism, partnerships, education, cultural preservation, and community initiatives, we are committed to creating a future where Maasai heritage remains strong while new generations have greater opportunities.
